AFL TV star Billy Brownless celebrated Christmas with Garry Lyon after their friendship was almost destroyed when his ex-wife started dating his colleague.

Brownless was photographed enjoying a celebratory lunch with his children Lucy, Ruby, Oscar and Max and his ex-wife Nicky and her new partner Lyon.

Nicky and Lyon announced they were an item shortly after she and Brownless ended their marriage in 2016.

Brownless reportedly still felt betrayed as the pair assured him they were nothing more than ‘just good friends’.

Lyon appeared on the ‘Footy Show’ with Brownless but left the sports show shortly after the announcement.

After years of bad blood, Brownless and Lyon began steps towards reconciliation and spent Christmas Day 2020 together.

The last lunch marks the third time the friends have put aside their differences to get together, and this time the celebration had a dual purpose.

Ruby and her fiance Josh Wallis, son of famous Western Bulldogs player Stephen Wallis, were able to celebrate their engagement with family after Wallis popped the question on Hayman Island earlier this month.

Brownless has moved on and has been dating his new partner Justine for several months with the pair spotted at Stakes Day at Flemington in November.

Brownless spoke about his fractured friendship with Lyon in an interview with AFL greats Sam Newman and Don Scott on an episode of their podcast “You Cannot Be Serious” in September 2020.

“You know I’m going to ask you this – people want to know how you and Garry Lyon are doing,” Newman said.

“Obviously you go through all the different emotions at that point,” Brownless replied. ”Why me?’ and a little hate.

“But now man, it’s been four or five years, I’ve come in and everybody’s in a good place to be honest. Garry and Nicky are – that’s fine – and the kids are.

“That was another big problem. Young Maxy was about 10, Oscar about 14, the girls [Lucy and Ruby] it was 16, 17.”
