Welcome back to Toy Aisle, io9’s regular roundup of the best toys on the internet. This week: Star Trek1/6 digit line goes to Deep Space Ninethe hottest anime of the season gets a hot new character, sit back and relax Pokemon style. Look at it!
EXO-6 Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Sixth Quark Figure
The latest addition to the EXO-6 Star Trek line tackles its first major alien addition to the series: Deep Space NineQuark’s beloved, hot-tempered Ferengi bar manager. In addition to the many alternate hands, Quark naturally has several bricks of Latin pressed gold that he added to his coffers, Ferengi-style PADD equipment, and even an acquisition rule book. It is due out in the fall of 2023 and will cost around $215. No haggling! [TNI]
Pokemon Slowpoke Armchair
Since a large portion of the 1,000+ Pokemon are amorphous blobs, we’ve seen quite a few. squished into pieces of furniturecounting on it Slowpoke, which is now a beanbag chair it looks like a comfortable place to slide down and let life slow down. Inside the pink polyester bag is nothing but styrofoam balls, which means that over time Slowpoke’s shape will probably change and he might not end up looking like a chair. We have nothing against beanbag chairs, but dropping $200 on one is a tough sell. Cheap Ikea furniture might not last forever, but at least the chair will always look like a chair.
SH Figuarts Chainsaw Man
Bandai is also jumping on board one of the biggest anime of the season with its own character of the titular devil hunting devil. Unlike the recent Figma reveal, Figuarts Chainsaw Man is strictly that – no parts to swap him between Denji and Chainsaw form. Instead, you get alternate hand parts that have Denji with clenched fists or extended and ready to sculpt, an alternate tie built to look like it’s fluttering in the air, and an alternate lower jaw to show Chainsaw Man with either his mouth open or closed. This figure will cost around $50 when it releases in Japan next April – but good luck finding pre-orders for it still available. [AmiAmi]
Blitzway Kurt Cobain Sixth Scale Figure
Action figure creators tend to stick with fictional characters, but many real-life figures have had the same impact on their fan bases. So while we’re used to seeing Marvel heroes or DC villains painstakingly crafted as detailed and realistic 12-inch collectibles, Blitzway gave musician and alt-rock icon Kurt Cobain the same treatment. The worn sweater and ripped jeans are the perfect recreation of Cobain’s iconic look, while Blitzway created a pair of interchangeable head sculpts inspired by Cobain’s performances. Number 319 dollars, it is expected to be available sometime in the second quarter of 2023it also comes with all the accessories needed to pose the figure as if she were performing, including stage gear and an electric guitar.
The secret to the Rubik’s Cube’s enduring success is its simple design, which will continue to challenge puzzle solvers for generations to come. It doesn’t get any easier with age. But that doesn’t stop companies from coming up with variations that increase the challenge, like the Rubik’s Cube tiles that change color how you move it. The Rubik’s Ghost are tiles printed with thermochromic ink that all appear black until the heat from the solver’s fingers changes color to reveal how the cube has been shuffled. It’s devilish, and at $15, it’s a solid gift for that one family member who believes he’s a genius.
