Blake Shelton has decided to take a step back from his coaching duties Voice after 12 years of driving.
On Tuesday, the “God’s Country” singer announced that next season of the singing competition show will be his last — 23 consecutive seasons with the show before his departure.
“I’ve been struggling with this for a while now and I’ve decided it’s time for me to walk away Voice after season 23,” the 46-year-old country star wrote in an Instagram post. “This show has changed my life in every way for the better and will always feel like home to me.”
He continued, “It’s been one hell of a ride during these 12 years of turning chairs and I want to thank everyone at NBC’s ‘The Voice,’ every producer, writer, musician, crew and caterer, you’re the best. It takes a lot of work, passion and adult drinking to put on a live show twice a week (Ha!).

Shelton then reflected on the relationships he fostered on the show — and gave a shout-out to the contestants.
“I have formed lifelong bonds with Carson and every one of my fellow coaches over the years, including my wife, Gwen Stefani! I have to say a big thank you to the singers – the ‘Voices’ who come to this stage season after season and amaze us with their talent and special thanks to those who chose me as their coach.”
He added, “Ultimately, it’s about all of you, the fans who watch and support these artists, us coaches, and everyone on ‘The Voice’ chasing their dreams. It couldn’t be done without you!”
Shelton began coaching the first season alongside Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green. The Maroon 5 frontman and Shelton coached together until Levine’s departure in Season 16, and since then a variety of stars have filled the red chairs, including Miley Cyrus, Shakira, Usher, Nick Jonas and more. Team Shelton has a total of eight wins during their time on the show.

In addition to Shelton’s exit, Voice also announced who will be coaching alongside him in season 23. Kelly Clarkson will return after leaving in season 21, while Chance the Rapper and Niall Horan will make their coaching debuts on the series.
The stars teased the announcement earlier in the day by posting peace sign emojis and tagging each other on their Instagram feeds. With the news, everyone shared their excitement for the new season.
“I’m excited to join Voice as a coach for next season,” said the 29-year-old “Sunday Candy” singer. “I’m excited to help other artists get to the next level and make the most of this life experience. Get ready for #teamchance.”
